Party season in Lincoln creeps up fast. One minute it’s bonfire night, the next you’re heading uphill to the Christmas markets or out for the work do, and every salon diary in the city is full.
The secret to looking your best on the night isn’t cramming everything into the day before. It’s booking the right treatments in the right order, so your colour has settled, your tan is streak-free and your lashes are fresh. Here’s our countdown, from the team at Bennetts on Cornhill.
6–8 weeks before: book everything
This is the step most people miss. December Fridays and Saturdays are the first slots to go, so lock in every appointment now, even the ones that are weeks away.
It’s also the time for anything that needs a run-up:
- Big colour changes and colour correction. Going from blonde to a rich winter brunette, or fixing a box-dye mishap, can take more than one session. Starting now gives us time to get it right without rushing.
- Extensions consultation. Extensions need colour-matching and ordering in, so book your consultation early if you want extra length or volume for party season.
- Start your skin prep. If you’re planning skincare or aesthetic treatments, a course started now means your skin is at its best by December, not still recovering.
- Patch tests. New to lash extensions, tinting or a new colour? You’ll need a patch test at least 48 hours before, so get it done while you’re booking.
3–4 weeks before: the cut
A fresh cut looks best a couple of weeks after it’s done, once it’s had time to settle and you’ve learned how to style it. Leave it until the day before and you might end up with a shape that feels a little too new.
This is a good time to:
- Get your cut or restyle. Want a change for the new year? Do it now so you’ve got time to get used to it before the photos.
- Book a curly cut. If you’ve got curls, a specialist cut now gives your pattern time to settle into its new shape.
- Shape your brows. Get them tidied and shaped now, then do a quick top-up nearer the night.
1–2 weeks before: colour, extensions and waxing
Now it’s time to polish.
- Colour refresh or gloss. A root touch-up or toner a week or two out gives you fresh, glossy colour without that “just done” look. Lincolnshire’s hard water can dull colour fast, so ask us about a gloss and the right shampoo to keep it bright.
- Extensions fitted. Having them in a week or so before means you’ve had time to get comfortable styling them.
- Waxing. Book your wax 3–7 days before the party. That gives any redness time to calm down and, importantly, it needs to be done before your spray tan, not after. Nervous about an intimate wax for the first time? Our therapists will talk you through it, and it’s always quicker than you expect.
The final few days: lashes and tan
2–3 days before: lash extensions. Lashes need 24–48 hours to fully set, so keep them away from water and steam for a day after your appointment. Book them a couple of days out and they’ll be full and fluffy on the night. Already have a set? Book an infill instead.
1–2 days before: spray tan. Your tan should be the last treatment before the party. To get the best result:
- Exfoliate the day before your tan, and finish any waxing or shaving at least 24 hours before.
- Come in with clean skin, with no moisturiser, deodorant or make-up.
- Wear loose, dark clothes to your appointment.
- Don’t shower until the time your therapist gives you, then moisturise every day to keep it even.
On the day: hair up, glam on
Book a blow-dry or event styling on the day, whether that’s bouncy waves, a sleek finish or an updo that lasts all night. Tell us what you’re wearing and where you’re going, and we’ll create a look that suits both.
