Thinking about your first intimate wax but feeling a bit nervous? That’s completely normal, and you’re definitely not the only one.
To our therapists, it’s just another treatment. They’re professional, quick and there to make you feel comfortable. Here’s everything you need to know before your first appointment, so there are no surprises.
Which wax is which?
| Wax | What’s removed |
|---|---|
| Bikini line | Hair outside your underwear line |
| Extended bikini | A bit further in and on top, for higher-cut swimwear |
| Brazilian | Almost everything, leaving a small strip or triangle at the front |
| Hollywood | Everything |
Not sure which to go for? Tell your therapist what you’d like to feel comfortable in, and they’ll suggest the right option. You can always go further next time.
How to prepare
- Let it grow. Hair needs to be about the length of a grain of rice, roughly 2–3 weeks after shaving. If it’s too short, the wax can’t grip.
- Exfoliate gently the day before to help prevent ingrown hairs.
- Think about timing. Skin can be more sensitive just before and during your period, so you might prefer to book another week.
- Tell us about your skin. Let your therapist know if you use retinoids or acne treatments, take any medication, or have recently had sunburn. Some of these can make waxing unsuitable.
- Wear comfy, loose clothing for afterwards.
What happens in the room
Your therapist will explain everything first and give you privacy to undress. You can keep your underwear on for a bikini line wax, and they’ll give you disposable briefs if you need them.
They’ll cleanse the area, then apply and remove the wax in small sections, working quickly. The first few strips are the most noticeable. Most people find it’s much less painful than they expected, and it gets easier with every visit. The whole treatment usually takes 15–30 minutes, and then you’re done.
Aftercare
For the first 24–48 hours:
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, swimming and the gym.
- Skip sunbeds and spray tans.
- Wear loose cotton underwear.
- Don’t use perfumed products on the area.
After 48 hours, start exfoliating gently two or three times a week to keep ingrown hairs away. Book your next wax in 4–6 weeks. The more regularly you wax, the finer and sparser the hair grows back.
